The People That Time Forgot (1977)

In 1919, a British expedition in the Antarctica region is searching for a lost American explorer and finds a hidden prehistoric world instead.

The People That Time Forgot is a 1977 Technicolor fantasy/adventure film based on the novel The People That Time Forgot (1924) and Out of Time's Abyss (1924) by Edgar Rice Burroughs. It was produced by Britain's Amicus Productions and directed by Kevin Connor. Like Connor's other two Burroughs-derived films, The Land That Time Forgot and At the Earth's Core, the film was distributed in the United States by American International Pictures

When a message is found from lost explorer Bowen Tyler (Doug McClure) detailing a prehistoric world at the center of the Arctic Circle, fellow adventurer Ben McBride (Patrick Wayne) gets a newspaper to sponsor a search. The search takes McBride to the tropical oasis Tyler wrote about, the isle of Caprona, where he meets a feisty cavegirl named Ajor (Dana Gillespie). She explains that Tyler has been kidnapped by a warrior tribe called the Naga. Now it's up to McBride to rescue him.

What the fuck are you looking at?
That Edgar Rice Burroughs wrote a lot of cool stuff.  He's probably most famous for Tarzan but he had some other stories that were pretty rad in their own way.  These movies are based on a few of his books from the Caspak series.

When I was a young lad in the 70's I loved these cheesy dinosaur movies. It brings back fond memories as an adult but after watching this one again recently I was not very impressed.  This should probably be The Film That Time Forgot.  I wasn't very impressed last week when I gave it 90 minutes of my life.

You may remember Patrick Wayne from Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger. He is also John Wayne's son, who was offered the role as Superman in the original movie, but turned it down due to his father's accelerating cancer.  This dude could have been Superman and instead chose this to be his lasting legacy.

Damn girl put some clothes on.
We also have a cave girl running around with a modern haircut and her tits hanging out.  And she speaks amazing English.  It also has Ursa from Superman with Princess Leia buns.  And in the climax of the film our heroes chased by a volcano.  Yes you read that correctly.

There's nothing very spectacular here. It's not a bad time waster (although it seems to start rather abruptly) even though it's not an especially good movie.

Trivia:
Paintings by Frank Frazetta appear in the film either as murals on walls or as the inspiration for tableaux performed by the characters.

The armored creature that attacks McBride and his group in the cave near the end of the film was actually a model of the Late Permian reptile called Scutosaurus.

Rescue team used amphib seaplane for rescue from mother ship with Lewis machine gun, circa 1919.

The professors sleeproll changes colors several times from blue to red.

Charly looks a lot like Princess Leia with similar hair style.
